Spring Favorites: Lemonade

Last night my life was made when Beyonce released Lemonade to the world. I have been waiting for this record to drop for months now. Queen Bey did not disappoint with this record.  She continues to be an unstoppable force. Lemonade features Jack White, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, and James Blake. As of right now Lemonade is a Tidal exclusive. Sources say it will be available to other outlets in the next coming days.

If I am honest, I felt the material on Lemonade was not as strong as the Beyonce record. It is no way her worst album as some basics are suggesting. I found it gets better the more you listen to it. It is her most personal record to date.  I appreciate the fact the Beyonce keeps on making records. She does not make an album full of singles, but a record that tells a story. I think only a couple of tracks are radio friendly. I think this record will scare Top 40 radio, but it wasn't made for them. The fact Formation was not played on Top 40 radio says a lot. I love that she experimented with different sounds on Lemonade. She goes a little country and little rock n roll .

As a visual album, Lemonade transcended Beyonce( the record).  It was spectacular and my mind is still coming down from the visual high of it.  My favorite section was the transition from Pray You Catch Me to Hold Up.  The visuals of her jumping off a building and landing in water. Saying a prayer in a  flooded bedroom and emerging from that in a yellow dress. She slayed my entire existence. Don't get me started on her African queen look. A crown made out of braids, are you kidding me? You are doing yourself a disservice if you do not watch the visual album. It was a masterpiece. The visual album was a celebration of black women. The past, present and the future.

There is tons of cameos in the visual album. Serena Williams struts her stuff in Sorry. The image of Amandla Stenberg and Zendaya sitting on a tree melted my mind. These two young ladies I affectionately call my sisters/daughters. I am so proud of them like they were my blood. One of the strongest images was the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Eric Garner holding pictures of their sons. It was powerful.

I had a few questions after listening and watching Lemonade. Who is Becky with the good hair? Did Jay-Z cheat on Beyonce? Why is Beyonce as hard as it gets?

Standout tracks: Hold Up, 6 inch, Daddy Lessons, All Night, Don't Hurt Yourself , Pray You Catch Me and Formation
