This is the Remix

This is my favorite time of the year when I sprinkle my blog with my songs that I absolutely adore. 1. Alphabeat- The spell Those who are fans of my blog know that I am a Alphabeat fan. This song is so infectious. I freaking love the male lead singer. He is so adorable hitting his tambourine. I just want to put him in my pocket. Gosh, I wish I was that carefree on the dance floor. 2. Mika- Kick Ass Oh how I love Mika, once again this is old news. Heard this song for the first time at my gym. He is so freaking fierce. Love him!!!! 3. Juanes- La Camisa Negra I heard this song years ago but for some reason I cannot get it out of my head. My Spanish sucks so I am not sure what the song is about. For some weird reason whenever I hear this song I daydream about being serenaded by some Antonio Banderas look alike named Carlos. Fun times. 4. Erick Hassle- Hurtful Thank you iTunes for introducing me to an ama...

Post Racial Era

I had every intention of writing a cutsie blog post probably about something frivolous but something caught my attention. While browsing through feministing.com I came across a post about cop brutality in Seattle. I have included the video below because I believe everyone should get a chance to view it and make up their minds before reading my opinions. Personally, this video left a bad taste in my mouth. The victim might be charged with resisting arrest but clearly the cop was in the wrong here. There is always a way to handle a situation without resulting in violence. Who would think that you could get beaten up for jaywalking. Its obvious to me that the girls in this video are minors. They should be worried about where they are going to college not about who is going to pay their parole. This video got me thinking about the myth of post racial America. Everywhere I turn I hear people frantically discussing this myth, its gotten to the point where a lot of them believe in a post raci...

Crash Course in TV Land

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to be entertained. Sometimes a good hour of TV can be a great pick me up. In the last two months two of my favorite TV shows of all time came to a close. The first was the uber Fabulous Ugly Betty that left us Betty less on April 14. For the most part I was extremely satisfied with how everything concluded. Amanda found her biological father, there was a hint that Daniel and Betty's were gonna happen, Mark got to the root of his commitment problems(I was really sad that the adorable Cliff did not make an appearance, they were so cute), Hilda got married and Justin got a boyfriend. The characters on Ugly Betty were probably the most dynamic and eccentric bunch ever on TV. I will miss them dearly but am excited about what is next for the talented cast. Becki Newton(Amanda) will be on Love Bites next fall. HBIC Vanessa Williams will be relocating to Wisteria Lane. Yes people, Desperate Housewives 7th season will probably be the best season so fa...

WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER HERO!

This morning I began to listen to Tina Turner's classic "We Don't Need Another Hero" and my paradigm began to shift.I got my mojo back and therefore you lucky devils a blog post. My heart has been heavy over the last few weeks. I could never pinpoint the exact cause for my heavy heart but there would always be a trigger to my crying soul. It could be a comment here or an action there. A real disgust to how insensitive, selfish and evil man could be. There were so many thoughts running through my mind and different emotions that were flying high. Yet I could not formulate all of this energy into words. It maybe 2010 but I feel like we are back in the 1960's on an eve of a revolution. My mind is flooded with memories from the past where people with African ancestry were hosed down by a fire hose and attacked by police dogs for demanding to be treated as equals. The graphic image of a young man using the American flag as a weapon during the anti-busing rally in Bost...

Today is the Day

Well it is finally here, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day(NWGHAAD). About a year ago I was ignorant about this day. I was aware of World AIDS Day and that was about it. Fast Forward a year and there are so many days that I am now aware of. Today is the day we celebrate raising awareness of the increasing impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. There are so many ways to get involved in NWGHAAD campaign: * Get tested for HIV * Practice safer methods to prevent HIV(safe sex, clean needles etc.) * Decide not to engage in high risk behaviors * Discuss HIV prevention with family, friends, and colleagues * Provide support to people living with HIV/AIDS * Get involved with or host an event for National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in your community(example- a red shoe party) Some people may ask why I am so passionate about raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. First I am a passionate person to begin with. I have always fought for what I believed was ...

My New Baby

Image
Over the next couple of weeks I will be going full stream ahead with my new project which according to my boss is my baby. Therefor my new baby is "I Stand with NJWAN" HIV Action and Awareness Campaign. My work will be raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. Here is step one, supporting other awareness campaigns. March 10 is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. It is day that recognizes the risks of HIV/AIDS for girls and women but also raises awareness. It is a day that I encourage all young ladies to go out and get tested. Knowing your HIV status is the beginning of battle. Did you know that 80% of new HIV infections of women and girls results from having sex with an infected male partner? I didn't and that statistics scares the bee gees out of me. Did you know that 1 in 5 people living with HIV do not know that they have the virus? Once again, I am scared out of my mind. Why did I not know all of this information? Why are people so secretive and hesitant to discu...

Oscar Time Already

This was probably the first time in years that I woke up after the Oscars nominations were announced. It probably has to do with the fact that I have a resemblance of life now. I am going to work regularly(even if it is just to volunteer) and know that there is more to life than the Academy Awards. Regardless, here I am writing about the Oscar nominations because I am a bit of a dork. There were not too many surprises in the nominations. I feel that most of the nominations were thoroughly deserved. I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my faves( Maggie Gyllenhaal) nominated for best supporting actress. I am impressed with the nominations of Kathryn Bigelow and Lee Daniels in the category of Best Director. They are representing the minorities in field that is dominated by white males. If either of them win, they will be making history. My vote is for Kathryn. My favorite film of the moment, Avatar was nominated for 9 Academy Awards. I know that it will win most of the awards it is n...
