Chapter Six: Away We Go(Waterside)

The last week I was in Liberia my twin sister decided she wanted to go fabric shopping. I was a little reluctant because shopping is not my favorite activity but I ended up going anyway. We met up with our cousin by duport road junction, since she knew how to maneuver around the market. So away we go. The first place we went the people where selling 3 lapas for the price $30(tres cher), so we moved on. After nearly being run over by a steam roller we found this boutique where they were selling clothes and hair accessories. My sister was looking at dresses but I was not too interested. I did take a good peak and found a perfect dress. I asked to try it on and lucky me it fit perfectly. That was the first purchase of the day. The second store we went to was run by a father and son pair. The son looked like a Lebanese version of Ryan Gosling. It was there my sister purchased some fabrics. They sell 3 lapas for a price of $10 and Obama fabric for $15. Which is the most exquisite fabric. Not anything can be called Obama. The next store we went to was run by a man who looked like the actor who played the villain in The Mummy series. It was a little more reasonable priced than the first store. There were a lot of beautiful designs but none that really caught my eye. My sister managed to find some more fabrics to purchase. So away we go through the market. In between narrow alleyways where on the corners were stores. You have to walk fast in the market or you will lose your guide and get trampled by the crowd. It such an interesting sight. You will see people braiding their hair next to someone who is selling dried fish. Hundreds of people hustling for a better life and others searching for good bargains. Our last stop was a store we did the most damage. I saw two pieces that I could work with. From there we were on our way to the tailor where we picked designs to make our dresses. After five hours our trip to waterside was complete. I was tired, thirsty and hungry by the time I arrived back to the house. SO that was my first trip to waterside. During Christmas and New Year you cannot even drive there. There will be a sea of people, you will just be confused.
